Transition to CyberSecurity

Been a Software Tester for 4.5 years, and finally decided to make the transition into Cybersecurity role now.

It all started when I came across this Instagram post that at first, the remuneration attracted my attention. Then it struck me. What if I try to be one of them? Does that excite me?

The more I think about it, the more the answer rise up as a big YES.

CyberSecurity and Tester, does it overlaps?

Perhaps in some sense, Cybersecurity may have some overlapping on the analytics skills as a Software Tester too. One is on analyzing the features enhancement, bug fix and solutioning done by the developer to check if the work done matches what the requirement is, and also on analyzing that if the software produced is what the end user actually wants, provide risk that the software may not achieve the business needs etc.

Cybersecurity also employs the similar analyzing mindset, that has a lot of consideration on Threat Modelling and Intelligence, Risk Management, SOC, Digital Forensics, Vulnerability Research etc, that all tries to minimize the occurrence of an organization to get involved in a cybersecurity incident.

It seems like the role also suits a person with a curiosity and likes to analyze things, which is the mindset I had sharpen on along my Software Testing journey.

Right now I feel more engaged on cybersecurity topics like on the vulnerabilities that successfully make a dent and damages on the IT sphere, which prompt me to learn more about the IT infrastructure, Operating System, Hardware, Networking topics which I fell more echoed to.

So right now, I am using TryHackMe to venture into this area. I feel that the rooms are very helpful and give good resources to learn on cybersecurity topics. I even subbed it to access more learning content, deploying VMs to learn on cybersecurity and pen-testing tools.

If there are any Cybersecurity opportunities, please feel free to reach out to me!
